Finlayson Roofing
Edinburgh-based heritage roofing specialists led by Scott Finlayson, with 20+ years' experience on Grade A and B listed buildings including Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle and Fettes College.
Finlayson Roofing was established in 2017 by Scott Finlayson, who brought over 20 years of personal experience in lead, slate and zinc roofing to the company. Before founding the business, Scott worked on Grade A and B listed properties including Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Castle, the Old Course Hotel in St Andrews and the Nelson Monument in Edinburgh, as well as international heritage work at St Mary's Cathedral in Sydney, Australia, and the Hobart GPO in Tasmania. That grounding in historic fabric continues to shape the company's approach to conservation roofing today.
Based in Portobello, Edinburgh, the team specialises in traditional lead roofing, zinc roofing and natural slating, alongside rainwater goods, gutters and rhones, and general roofing maintenance and repair. Conservation work — matching original materials, working within listed building consent constraints, and coordinating with architects and conservation officers — sits at the centre of the business rather than as an add-on service.
Finlayson Roofing's heritage portfolio includes ongoing work for the Edinburgh-based architectural practice Scott & Brown on Grade A listed buildings such as Fettes College and Winton Castle, as well as major roofing projects across Edinburgh's New Town conservation area, including Regent Terrace, Saxe-Coburg Place and India Street.
