A lifelong passion for historic buildings
Historic buildings don't look after themselves. Behind every old building there is a story, and behind every re-thatched roof, restored sash window and carefully repointed wall is a craftsperson who has spent years — often a lifetime — mastering their discipline. The Building Conservation Register exists because that passion and expertise deserves to be easy to find.
We built BCR as the digital-first alternative the sector deserves — a modern, easy-to-search home for lime plasterers, stonemasons, conservation architects, thatchers, timber framers, heritage consultants and dozens of other specialists that care for the UK's historic and listed buildings.
BCR connects those specialists with the people who need them: homeowners caring for a listed property, architects and planners assembling a project team, local authority conservation officers, and national bodies like the National Trust and Historic England. Every listing is reviewed by our team before it goes live, and every member receives a unique BCR reference number — a small but meaningful mark of professionalism.

Meet our Founder
George Litchfield has had a lifelong interest in architecture and old buildings — a fascination that started long before it became a career. Over the past 30 years he has worked on numerous historic and listed buildings across the UK, gaining a hands-on understanding of the skills and craftsmanship it takes to care for them properly.
That experience also built a wide network of contacts: conservation architects and highly skilled tradespeople working across stone, timber, lime, thatch, metal and many other trades. In 2018, George founded the Building Conservation Register to bring that network online, making it easier for the specialists he knows and trusts to be found by the people who need them.
