Site Information
1. Acceptance & who we are
The Building Conservation Register (the "Site") is operated by Building Conservation Register (contact: info@buildingconservationregister.com ). By using the Site you accept these terms in full. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Site.
2. Access & availability
We aim to keep the Site available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend or withdraw the Site at any time — for example for maintenance, security, or operational reasons — without prior notice.
3. Acceptable use
You must not misuse the Site. Prohibited activity includes (without limitation): transmitting illegal or harmful content, attempting to breach security, scraping the Site without permission, or interfering with other users' access. We may disable accounts or remove content that breaches these terms without notice.
4. Listings & professional responsibility
Professionals who create or claim a listing on the Building Conservation Register are responsible for the accuracy, currency, and lawfulness of their listing content — including qualifications, accreditations, service descriptions, and contact details.
We do not independently verify the credentials or qualifications described in listings. Inclusion on the Register does not constitute endorsement, certification, or recommendation by us. Members of the public who engage a listed professional do so at their own discretion.
We reserve the right to suspend or remove any listing at our sole discretion — including for breach of these terms, misleading content, or conduct we consider damaging to the integrity of the Register.
BCR reference numbers (e.g. BCR-XXXXX) are issued solely to professionals with an active listing. The reference number is a directory identifier; it does not certify or accredit the holder in any way.
5. Subscriptions & payment
Enhanced and Premium listing tiers are available by paid subscription. Subscriptions are per listing, not per user account; a single user may hold multiple listings under separate subscriptions.
Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your full card details. By subscribing you also agree to Stripe's terms of service.
Subscriptions renew automatically on an annual basis. You may cancel at any time via your account dashboard; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time unless required by law.
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing with reasonable notice. Price changes will not affect an active subscription until its next renewal.
6. Content — accuracy & liability
We make reasonable efforts to ensure editorial content on the Site is accurate and up to date, but we provide the Site and its content "as is" without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for indirect loss, lost profits, or loss of data arising from your use of the Site, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
7. Copyright & intellectual property
All editorial content on this Site (text, images, layout, design, code) is owned or licensed by Building Conservation Register unless otherwise stated. You may view and print extracts for personal, non-commercial use only. Any other use — including copying, republication, modification, or redistribution — requires our prior written permission.
Listing content (descriptions, logos, photographs) remains the intellectual property of the listing holder. By submitting content to the Site you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display it on the Site and in associated promotional materials.
By submitting photographs, logos, artwork, written content, or other materials, you confirm that you own the content or have obtained the necessary permission to provide it, and that it does not infringe the copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights of any third party. We accept submissions in good faith but reserve the right to remove any content if a copyright or other rights dispute arises, and you agree to indemnify us against any claim brought against us arising from a breach of this warranty.
If you believe your intellectual property has been used on the Site without permission, please contact us at info@buildingconservationregister.com with full details.
8. Privacy policy
What data we collect
We collect and process the following categories of personal data:
- Account data — name and email address when you register.
- Listing data — business name, address, contact details, and descriptions you provide for your listing. This data is published publicly on the Site.
- Payment data — billing details are collected and stored by Stripe on our behalf. We receive a Stripe customer ID and subscription status; we do not store full card numbers.
- Technical data — IP address, browser, pages visited, and timestamps, collected automatically for security and site operation.
- Communications — if you contact us by email, we retain the correspondence to handle your enquiry.
- Recommendation & outreach data — if a listing holder recommends a fellow professional to us, or we identify a business as a potential member, we may hold that person's name and email address until they register, opt out, or the data is no longer needed for that purpose.
How we use your data
We use personal data to: operate and administer the Site; process and manage your listing subscription; communicate with you about your account; and fulfil legal obligations.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use personal data for automated profiling or targeted advertising.

We process account and payment data on the basis of contractual necessity. We process technical data on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating a secure site. Where we send marketing emails, we rely on your consent.
Data retention
Account data is retained for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period thereafter. Payment records are retained as required by law (typically six years). Technical logs are retained for up to 90 days. Listing data is retained for as long as your listing is active, plus a reasonable period afterwards in case you wish to reinstate it. Recommendation and outreach data is retained until the person registers, opts out, or the data is no longer needed for that purpose.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent as our lawful basis. To exercise any right, contact us at info@buildingconservationregister.com . You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Third parties
We share data with Stripe (payment processing), our hosting provider, and — where you choose to use them — Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn for social sign-in, and Google's Geocoding API to convert listing addresses into map coordinates. These providers operate under appropriate data processing agreements. We do not share personal data with any other third parties without your consent, except where required by law.
International data transfers
Some of the providers named above — including Stripe, Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn — are based in or transfer data to the United States. Where this happens, we rely on the provider's standard contractual clauses or another transfer mechanism approved under UK GDPR to ensure your data remains protected to UK standards.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all liability for loss or damage arising from your use of the Site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
12. Complaints
If you have a concern about the Site or its content, please contact us at info@buildingconservationregister.com . If you remain dissatisfied, you may raise a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. For significant changes we will aim to notify registered users via email or a notice on the Site.

These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England & Wales.
