Tysoe Manor, Warwickshire — 14th-Century Grade II* Roof Restoration

Case study by West Country Renovations Ltd

Tysoe Manor is a rare survival: an early 14th-century Grade II* listed manor house in Warwickshire retaining its medieval oak staircase, stone-mullioned windows, oak-studded doors and original fireplaces. When West Country Renovations were appointed, the principal threat was structural — the roof coverings had failed, exposing the medieval timbers beneath to water ingress.

The team stripped the entire roof, carefully assessed every timber and carried out targeted repairs using seasoned oak. The roof was then re-tiled using a blend of the original stone tiles — salvaged, graded and relaid — supplemented with carefully sourced reclaimed stone tiles to match in colour and texture. The result is a roof that reads as entirely original to the building's history.

Alongside the roof works, the east wing was renovated with new bathrooms and a kitchen designed to complement the period character of the house, and the remaining rooms were redecorated throughout. The walled garden and swimming pool were also restored as part of the programme.
